Somatic Therapy: Healing Through the Body and the Soul
Some things can’t be solved by talking alone. Anxiety that lives in your chest, grief that sits in your throat, old patterns that return no matter how well you understand them. These are held in the body, and the body is where they can soften.
Somatic therapy brings awareness to physical sensation, breath and the nervous system as part of the therapeutic process. In my practice, this body-based work is woven together with depth psychotherapy and a spiritual, soul-centered approach, so we attend to what you feel, how to meet it rather than struggle with it, and be informed by what your life’s circumstances ask of you to cultivate within.
What somatic therapy can help with
- Moving from inner distress towards thriving in a fluid inner state that is adaptive, responsive and clear
- Healing trauma and old wounds into strengths, gifts and compassionate insight that in turn makes you more available to others
- Support with navigating grief, loss and life transitions
- Cultivation of deep inner connection with yourself, in body, mind and spirit
- Inner guidance, intuition, Personal life path questions of purpose and alignment
- Healing relationship patterns through inner growth
What a somatic session looks like
Sessions are intuitive, connected and conversational. We move at your pace. Alongside talking, I may invite you to notice sensations, follow your breath, slow down around a difficult feeling, or explore an image or memory as it lives in your body. Nothing is forced, and you are always in charge of what we explore. As trust is felt, some somatic work may move into hands- on and energy work alongside therapeutic coaching, aligning the felt sense with the mind and intention.
When it serves you, we may also draw on dreamwork, nature-based practices or ritual to help integrate what emerges.
Somatic therapy online
Body-based work translates well to video sessions. You’re in your own familiar space, which many people find makes it easier to relax and notice what’s happening inside. One great benefit is skipping traffic to and from session. I also do see clients in person from my home in Berkeley when it serves best.
